Energy Credits
How are you doing?! I think a lot of us have hit a bit of a wall over the last couple of weeks… I’ve been feeling pretty fed up, but at the same time feeling very lucky that I’m able to stay home and safe. I’m just embracing ALL the feelings!
I’ve been pondering on something which Matt Haig talks about in Notes on a Nervous Planet. He talks about the idea of measuring ‘psychological weight’ and how helpful it would be if we just stop doing the difficult stuff once we’ve reached our psychological weight limit for the day!
I’d actually remembered it wrongly and was instead thinking about it in terms of ‘energy credits’. I’ve been feeling pretty low on energy so I’m trying to do less of the things that deplete my energy credits (reading the news, social media, working!) and more things that top up my energy credits (rest, walks, making stuff!).
I’m really enjoying topping up my credits by knitting my Isla jumper (from KIY by Emma Wright) - it’s the perfect restful knitting. Once I’d completed a pattern repeat, the chart was in my head and there’s no shaping until the armholes… so I can just knit away.
I’ve also just discovered macrame! Yes - I know I’m late to the game, but trying something new is definitely an energy booster. I’ve almost finished decorating our living room and realised that the wall which was going to remain quite minimal with just a mirror - definitely needs something else. So I browsed Pinterest for some wall hanging inspiration and fell in love with this - by Macrame Art Deco.
I decided it would be a great way to use up some yarn stash and picked out colours to go with the rest of the room… but some of the yarns aren’t working very well and I have some floppy feathers.
I’m using this tutorial and the chunkier roving style yarns are looking nice and holding the shape… so I’ll see how it goes!
If it doesn’t work out then I’ll be buying some macrame cord from Knit Nottingham and attempting to make something like this…
It’s so pretty! I love all the patterns from Knots and Wallflowers… I can see macrame becoming an expensive new hobby!
