Alder v Archer

I started making this denim shirt-dress in early Autumn last year and I’ve definitely taken my time with it!

Although it took a while, it was a completely stress-free make and I’m so happy with the fit! It’s loose and comfy with generous sleeves whilst also sitting nicely on my shoulders.

There were a few complicated bits that I was worried about messing up: the collar, the cuffs, the buttonholes… so I only worked on it when I was in the mood and in short spurts with realistic goals for each sewing session

I used this Grainline Studio Alder/Archer mash-up. I’ve wanted to make a sleeved version of my Alder shirt-dress (below) for a long time and I’m pretty sure they created this guide just for me!

I used a denim chambray from Merchant & Mills and buttons from Textile Garden. I’m glad I used a plain fabric and matching thread… it’s hiding the wobbly bits! But I think I’d feel confident to do a patterned (maybe plaid) one next time.

I also whipped up a waist-tie which makes it feel a bit fancier. I’m really looking forward to wearing it with sandals in the Spring!
