Tweaks & Repairs

Are you missing yarn shows?! I’ve been feeling conflicted because I miss the hustle and bustle of a busy show, but definitely don’t feel ready for large groups. We all move at our own pace when restrictions relax and for now I’m just delighted to feel safe enough to meet with family and friends outside.

So, in the absence of shows - I did a bit of online shopping with a couple of my show faves!

After finishing my Festive Top (which can definitely also be worn at non festive times) I was really struggling to find buttons that worked with the colour of the beads. They’re not really bronze, copper or rose gold… so I decided to go for a ribbon tie, thinking that it wouldn’t necessarily need to be a colour match.

But I don’t like the ribbon! The colour looks wrong, but it’s also just a bit flouncy for me and it hides the lovely keyhole at the back.

Taking part in Me Made May has inspired me to have another look for buttons and tweak it so that it’s not languishing in my wardrobe unworn.

Textile Garden has been my go to place since I fell in love with their buttons at Yarndale years ago, and I found some ‘old copper’ buttons which look great with the beads. They’re sort of brown with a subtle copper shine which is perfect. I also have spares that I could use on something else with the leftover beads.

I also ordered some new slipper soles from Joe’s Toes. I met Amanda from Joe’s Toes through doing shows and used some of their slipper soles for my Tassel Socks.

The thick soles recently came off my ‘popping to the bin/hedgehog feeding’ slippers - and rather than being disappointed, I was excited to replace them with a thinner sole from Joe’s Toes!

I always wear barefoot shoes and like to feel the ground - so I generally like a thin, flexible sole and had been finding the previous ones really clompy.

I went for rubber soles which should stand up to some light outdoor hedgehog feeding wear, and sewed them on with extra strong thread which will hopefully last a good while. Amanda also popped in a little sample of the Natural Crepe Rubber Soles and I would definitely buy those if I need more in the future… maybe the next time I see her at a show!

How are you feeling about yarn shows? Ready and raring to get back to them? Anxious at the prospect? Or (like me)… a bit of all the feelings?!
