Oak Tree Alpacas

A few weeks ago I started working as a volunteer at the lovely alpaca farm in our neighbouring village of Woodborough. I'd visited a few times previously with little'un and always came away feeling refreshed and inspired, so I'm thrilled to be part of the herd!

Alongside alpaca walks and experiences, there is a beautiful garden of edibles and a poly tunnel where micro greens are grown for local restaurants.

The farm is run and cared for by a group of creative and knowledge women who are interested in traditional crafts and working with the land in a sustainable way.

Last year our knit group (Knit in Notts Sherwood) did a workshop at Oak Tree farm where we learned how to make cord from nettles! It was brilliant and an excellent excuse to let the nettles in our garden grow tall.

I'm volunteering one day a week at the moment and my main job is collecting alpaca poo from the fields (it's excellent manure for the garden and you can buy bags from the farm). I've also done a bit of weeding, helped add chicken wire to the beautiful willow-woven structure of the duck/chicken home and this week I carded and spun some fleece (more on that another time).

I'm looking forward to sharing more about the farm and pics of the crias when they're born!
