Make Six 2025

It's been a while since I did “make nine” and I've really missed the focus that it gives me. I spent a huge amount of time making things last year…but very little got completed and most of it was for the house or other people.

So this year I'm craving the focus, I want to make things for myself and I want the process to be joyful! I will be doing a somewhat more realistic “make six”. I've not chosen all the final patterns yet, but here's my plan…

Balaclava or hood

I've been wearing my hats less this year. Now that I don't have a fringe I get an itchy forehead in hats! But I sometimes pull my wide scarf over my head like a hood - so I like the idea of making something that keeps both my neck and ears warm.

I've got my eye on the November Balaclava or Sophie Hood by Petite Knit.

Robina Light by Anne Ventzel

This pattern is a definite and is on the needles already. It's been on my wish list for ages and I'm knitting it in bright colours to make it even more fun to knit!

Proper Christmas Jumper

I knitted a festive top a few years back, but every December I wish I had a “proper” Christmas jumper!

I love the Santa Baby pattern by Hanne Rimmen and love the versions some people have knitted with embellished Christmas trees - particularly this one by Ottawia on Ravelry.

However… I'm not convinced that this style of yoke would fit well on my square shoulders, so I'm planning to knit a jumper with set in sleeves and then embroider Christmas trees around the neck.

Coat

I bought some Harris Tweed many moons ago…will this finally be the year I get round to making it into a coat?! I haven't chosen a pattern yet, but do like some of the Merchant and Mills coats.

Any suggestions on winter coat patterns would be welcome! Just pop it in the comments.

Stripy Jumper

I wear a lot of stripes but haven't knitted many stripy things. Feeling inspired by the Aros Sweater and the Lyon Sweater by Petite Knit (again).

Mittens

Mittens and gloves don't last me long. I wear them so much and often end up collecting muddy sticks for my dead-hedge when I'm out walking! My Pure wool cream hand warmers probably weren't the best idea!

I've had the Friesland Mittens by Mieka John on my wishlist for ages. They're thrummed and look super cosy. Maybe if I knit them in brown I can still collect muddy sticks!

Thanks for reading! Have you got making plans this year or are you just winging it?
