Steve the Blanket

I designed this blanket years ago but by the time I finished knitting up the original version most of the colours used were discontinued. So I gifted the original large blanket to my brother and started knitting it again in different shades… then some of those were discontinued just after I started!

It seemed that it wasn’t meant to be and the second version went into hibernation. I picked it up again last year and decided to finish it off. I was struggling for a name so when Beardie suggested Steve I just went with it…

Because some of the shades were discontinued it still hasn’t made it into a completed pattern - but it’s super simple so I thought I’d share the chart here so that you can make Steve the Blanket too!

I made three strips with the above chart worked twice per strip. I used eight shades so each shade is used once per strip - but you could use fewer shades or a different shade for every triangle! It would be a good way to use up yarn oddments of the same weight.

I used Rowan Pure Wool Worsted (20 sts x 25 rows on 4.5mm needles) and the finished blanket is approx 91 x 99 cm before adding the border. The finished size would vary depending on tension or if you use a different weight yarn - but you can easily make it bigger or smaller by knitting more/less strips and making them longer or shorter.

I did a simple crochet border around the edge, but you could pick up and knit an edging or knit borders and sew them on. Or you could bind the edges in fabric. So many options!

It’s a lovely weighty blanket and was fun and simple to knit. Please share pics if you knit Steve!
